wedding makeup products we live by

An article for the talented beauty specialist. For any event, we suggest investing in the products necessary to do the job right. Here are our favorite make-up products we use to ensure flawless all day make-up application that will outlast any weather conditions.

{If you’re debating on hiring a professional, We’ve asked Amy Lynn Larwig, one of the top Nashville make-up artists what to look for when hiring a professional make-up artist, in the next article.}

If you DO want to take on your own wedding beauty routine, this article is for you. We understand make-up is a big part of your wedding look and it’s important to love every part of it. Besides, you already know your favorite shade in the Naked color pallet “LIMIT’s” golden undertones makes your blue eyes shimmer.

Here are 5 necessary products you must invest in to achieve the most flawless wedding look.

          1.  The Secret is in the Primer

The first step to insure you make-up stays all day, begins at the base. Invest in a good primer. There are two types: water-based and silicone-based. Both types minimize pores and fine lines and increase the longevity of your make-up. It really makes a HUGE difference.

SPLURGE:   Arbonne Make-up Primer. **great for Oily, normal or Combination skin.

Total Beauty.com gives this a 9.5 out of 10 stars. You’ll realize fast, this weightless perfecting primer goes long way. Not only is it 100% natural, it eaves the skin looking smooth, hydrated and refreshed. I’ve used Mac, Smashbox, benefit.. you name it. Even for my dry/ combo clients skin still leaves a dewy finish. It is a bit pricey. That’s my only con I’ll add.

SAVE: A great comparison at drug store cost is the Neutrogena Shine Control Primer. You can pick this up at any local drug store. It still has a dewy finish and is the most comparable for a fraction of the price.

          2.  Foundation:

Weddings make-up, we always suggest using full coverage, or a build able medium coverage liquid foundation. Finding the perfect foundation for your skin type may require some trial and error. One important wedding make-up tip: Never use a foundation with SPF. Any products that contain SPF will reflect flash used by your photographer which will wash out your complexion.

OILY/COMBINATION SKIN: Best to stick with a Matte Finish

NORMAL SKIN: Either Matte or Luminous Finish

SPLURGE: MAC Pro Longer Foundation gives up to 15 hours of wear in any environmental condition. Rain, or shine, your make-up will stay put. I love this foundation because it provides sheer to medium coverage. This allows full control to build how much coverage you desire. Great for absorbing oils in the skin all day.

Alternative: Makeup Forever, HD Foundation is also great.

SAVE: Hard Candy Glamoflauge Invisible Camouflage Foundation

This is a great full coverage liquid foundation to use for your wedding containing no SPF. Our one recommendation is to stay away from this foundation if you have dry patches or very dry skin. It can accentuate dry patches, although using a great primer illuminates this. (This is where Arbonne comes in handy.)

          3.  Conceal dark circles under eyes. Choose a crease-less concealer

SPLURGE:

MAC Pro Longer Concealer

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer

Laura Mercier Secret Concealer

I love these concealers based on their crease-less and hydrating finish. The Mac and Laura Mercier are my all time favorites.

SAVE:

Hard Candy Glamoflauge Heavy Duty Concealer

Finally a drugstore concealer that is FULL coverage! A little of this goes a long way.  Long day wear,

Cons: May crease at the end of the day if you use too much during application. We recommend to use the back of your hand as a palette and dab your brush in the concealer, blend in circular motions on the back of your hand with a favorite concealer brush to remove access product. Then start by the eyelash and make one inch lines from eyelash to cheekbone. Blend.

          4. Setting Powder

To ensure your liquid foundation and concealer is set, use an HD Setting Translucent Powder. Again, a little goes a long way – so start out with a little bit on your cheekbones and work towards under your eye area. Dusting this powder with a fan brush is the best way to lightly cover.

          5. Illuminators / Blush / Bronzers

One of my favorite steps as a make-up artist that tie together your desired look. The possibilities and products are endless. Here are my favorites:

Illuminator: Benefit Watt’s Up! Cream-to-Powder Highlighter  http://www.sephora.com/watt-s-up-cream-to-powder-highlighter-P295206?skuId=1357250

Bronzer: Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Matte Bronzer  http://www.sephora.com/hoola-matte-bronzer-P290636?skuId=513234

Bronzer & Blush Combo: Benefit Cosmetics Rockateur Box o’Powder Blush

Benefits bronzers and illuminators are my all-time favorite. Rockateur has a gorgeous rose gold finish which compliments both matte or luminous looks.
